Palos Verdes Peninsula

Known as “The Hill,” its name is Spanish for “green sticks,” probably named after Canada de Los Palos Verdes.

Welcome to Palos Verdes Peninsula

The Palos Verdes Peninsula is a landform and a geographic sub-region of the Los Angeles area within southwestern LA County. Located in the South Bay region, the peninsula contains a group of affluent cities in the Palos Verdes Hills, including Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills, and Rolling Hills Estates. The area is known as “The Hill” by locals, and its name is Spanish for “green sticks,” probably named after Canada de Los Palos Verdes, a wooded area near current-day Machado Lake in Harbor Regional Park. The South Bay city of Torrance borders the peninsula on the north, the Pacific Ocean is on the west and south, and the Port of Los Angeles is east. The hill cities on the peninsula are known for dramatic ocean and city views, distinguished schools, extensive horse trails, and high-value homes. The spectacular Terranea Resort is in Rancho Palos Verdes on the coast and is the only major oceanside resort in the entire South Bay area. Fun Fact: Besides having high schools that consistently win national and state championships, tennis legends such as Pete Sampras, Tracy Austin, Lindsay Davenport, and many others grew up or spent a good part of their youth in Palos Verdes.
